EPPI launch 2months campaign on preventing cholera in Isoko South.

In a bid to eliminate cholera and other diseases associated with poor personal hygiene, Environmental Protection Promoters Initiative, EPPI has launched a 2months sensitization campaign on preventing cholera in Isoko South.

The program which was launched in Oleh headquarters of Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta, is targeted to reach out to at least 1000 persons 5 rural communities in Isoko South.

Speaking on the sensitization campaign, EPPI Director, Comrade Sylvester Itimi stressed that, the campaign is aimed at eliminating cholera and other diseases associated with poor personal hygiene and inadequate environmental sanitation practices in participating communities and by extension, Isoko South at large.

He further stated that, the cholera prevention campaign core focus is on the need to drink and use only safe water, proper and regular hand washing, proper use of latrines and to shun open defecation, adequate cooking of food (especially sea food), before consumption and proper kitchen and toilet hygiene.

He added that, “Over 2.9 million cases and is responsible for over 95,000 deaths annually, noting that, atleast 1 in every 10 people who get sick with the disease develops severe symptoms such as watery diarrhea, vomiting, rapid loss of body fluid which in turn leads to dehydration and shock. Cholera disease can lead to death within few hours if not detected and treated in time.” Comrade Itimi posited.

Cholera is life threatening but preventable, hence we shouldn’t gamble with our lives due to ignorance or negligence.
